Saturday 21st febrary the Ambassador of Italy to China, Ettore Sequi, has joined the annual meeting of the experts in Italian linguistics based in China, organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in Beijing. “We are celebrating today the excellence of Italian
language and culture, although Italy in the past few hours has been crying the loss of one of the most well-known intellectuals of our times: Umberto Eco” the Ambassador pointed out at the beginning of his speech. “Both, the Embassy and the Institute of Culture will be soon committed to promote a memorial event and an award that will be given in his honor, in order to preserve and to celebrate
his important legacy” he added then.

“Italy is a cultural power and Italian is among the most studied languages around the world. Your dedication and commitment to the cause constitute valuable resources to our nation” the Ambassador stated, addressing the experts who attended the meeting.

The book “The cemetery of Prague” will be published in Chinese soon, translated by Prof. Federico Wen.
“The Italianists wish to commemorate the author according to the Chinese tradition, hoping he will receive the book ‘through the wind’, since unfortunately he will not be able to see it published” said the Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Beijing, Stefania Stafutti.

The Association of Italianists in China was founded in 1987 and it represents the most significant association of Chinese experts and intellectuals who have been developed their education in Italy, whose carriers thus are tightly linked to our country. The Association can count on prestigious members of Chinese cultural reality, such as, first of all, Professor Zheng Quan, namely the President of the Association and the founder of the first teaching course about the art of making lutes and other stringed instruments in China at the same time.

During 2015 the Association has actively joined the Embassy and the Institute of Culture in celebrating together 45 years of bilateral relations between Italy and China.
It will also play a crucial role regarding the so called “Road to 50”, namely the cooperative path between the two countries towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic bilateral relations, which will take place and be celebrated in 2020.
