Ferrero opens in Hangzhou its first Chinese production plant

On September 23rd Ferrero inaugurated in Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province) its first production plant in China, at the presence of the Italian Ambassador to China Ettore Sequi, the CEO of the company, Mr Giovanni Ferrero, the Mayor of Hangzhou, Zhang Hongming and the Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Stefano Beltrame.

Built in a record time of 18 months utilizing world-leading technologies in this industry, the plant is valued at Euro 300 million and is therefore one of the most important Italian investments not only in Hangzhou (which boasts Euro 5,6 billion of FDIs) but in the whole of China. The total workforce, which currently amounts to 300 people, is expected to grow within a year to about 800/1000 units.

Mr Ferrero proudly claimed the position won by his company on the world market thanks to a focus on "corporate social responsibility". Ferrero, in China since 1977, is now a leader in its sector: present in Shanghai since 2000 with a representative office, it has become a trading company in 2007 and begins now direct production "in China, for China" by ensuring the same quality standards adopted in the rest of the world.

Ambassador Sequi emphasized the importance of this investment in terms of economic potential, technology and human capital. He recalled the recent visits carried out in China by Italian Foreign Minister Gentiloni as a confirmation of the renewed Italian commitment to continuity and growth in bilateral relations at the political, economic and cultural level, also with the aim of increasing our exports and fostering Chinese investment in Italy. He concluded by saying that Italy intends to present in China the best of “Made in Italy” while promoting the idea of “Do it with Italy ", as demonstrated by Ferrero’s investment.
